Teat Condition Scoring Worksheet

The teat is the primary defence against bacteria entering the udder and causing a mastitis infection - therefore the cornerstone of mastitis control is healthy teat condition.

The teats in your herd should meet the standards recommended by the National Mastitis Council in their scoring system.

1.  Score teats before milking.
2.  Score at least 80 cows in the herd.
3.  If more than;
     • 95% of teats do not meet the "Normal" classification for dryness and chaps, and
     • 20% show signs of hyperkeratosis,

     ... your teats are not in optimum condition and you should make improvements to your teat
     spraying techniques and sanitisers.

TEAT-EX Teat Spray

Every season, more and more dairy farmers are switching to TEAT-EX teat spray - simply because it works in improving teat condition, reducing mastitis risk and lowering BMSCC.

TEAT-EX is a unique blend of Chlorhexidine and a palm based byproduct Glycerine which is accompanied by a multiple surfactant formulation. It has a longer kill time of mastitis bacteria than Iodine-based teat care formulations and does not damage the skin surface of the udder or teats.

TEAT-EX has a track record of exceptional results in lowering bulk milk somatic cell count when used at the recommended dilution rate of 1:4 and with thorough application to the teat area.

TEAT-EX is made in New Zealand, for New Zealand dairy farming conditions.
